Troopers-Shmoopers

Watched Starship Troopers this weekend. It was actually pretty fun for the most part. It certainly had that "so horrendously awful it's actually pretty good" vibe going for it. The classic-Trek-with-a-budget sets, the ham-fisted acting, the terribly shallow plot-line, the rather impressive special effects: all was clicking along at a great pace.

And then we hit the third act.

Wow, what a steaming pile. I understand that it's satire and has a message, but doesn't satire work better if it's a little more subtle? Most B-movies do have a moral message at their center but most keep it far enough away from the schlock so you can look for the "deeper meaning" if you want, or you can just enjoy the boobies and the blow-ups. Troopers just comes off as far to overstated and way to simplified:

War is hell. Fascism sucks.

Who knew?
